UMPI awards standout athletes for 2006-2007

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle recently held its annual athletic awards banquet. For each sport UMPI has to offer its students, both a Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational Award winner are chosen.
    For the men’s skiing team, Bjorn Bakken was named MVP and the Inspirational Award was awarded to the entire team. Megan Toussiant won the women’s ski team MVP award and the entire team also was given the Inspirational Award.
Erica Davis won the MVP award for women’s volleyball and Kayla Barton was the most inspirational for that team. Darcy Lennon was named MVP for the golf team and Adam Bickford was the most inspirational for the season.
Brian Morrison won the MVP award for the men’s baseball team and Tom Wire was named most inspirational.  Lanie Roy was named MVP for softball and Jody-Ann was the most inspirational for the season.
The women’s basketball team MVP was Erica Davis and Julie Wescott won the inspirational award. On the men’s side, Anthony Wingate was named MVP and Tom Wire was the most inspirational.
The women’s soccer team awarded two players with the MVP award: Kelly Chasse and Rachel Nightingale. Makayla Gahagen was named the Lady Owls soccer team’s most inspirational player. Trevor Parent and Travis Parent were named co-MVPs for the men’s soccer team; while Chuck Reece was named the most inspirational.
For the men’s cross country team, the MVP was Scott Dorrity and the most inspirational was Andrew Ciszewski. On the ladies’ side, the MVP was Michelle Phillips and the most inspirational was Laura Stokes.
Rookie of the year awards went to Aman Randhawa, for men’s soccer; Billie Martin, for women’s soccer; Megan Clark, for women’s volleyball; Chandra Wisneski, for women’s cross country skiing; Aaron Schmersal, for men’s cross country skiing; Nicole Russell, for women’s basketball; Mikeal Engstrom, for men’s golf; Cory Caldwell, for men’s cross country; Shelly Handson, for women’s cross country; Travis Hovey, for men’s basketball; and Nicole Russell, for women’s softball.
Individual awards were also given to Pat Baker, as the Athletic Training Rising Star and Travis Parent, as the Athletic Training Student of the Year.
The Ruel Parks Award was given to Liza Maynard; Leah Joy and Erik Davidshofer both received the Al Arman (Make a Difference) Awards; and Trevor Parent was presented with the Stanley II Small Coaches Award.
Megan Toussaint received the Female Athlete of the Year award and Brian Morrison was given the Male Athlete of the Year Award.
