NHSC meetings slated
The Nordic Heritage Sport Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Members and public are encouraged to attend. This month the club will be finalizing the strategic plan and forming several committees that will help move NHSC forward. For more information, visit their Web site at www.nordicheritagecenter.org.
Soap Box Derby spring rally
The Northern Maine Soap Box Derby Committee is currently accepting registrations for the 12th annual Northern Maine Soap Box Derby Race. The race is set for Saturday, June 16 at Derby Hill in Houlton’s Community Park.
Youth between the ages of 8-16 years are encouraged to participate in this fun family event. To register, call the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department at 532-1310 and registration material will be sent through the mail.
Also, the committee is still looking for Soap Box Derby cars that are not being used. Call the recreation department if there is any problem finding a driver for a car.
Clubhouse opening
The Portage Hills Country Club will be opening this Saturday, May 19. For more information, call the clubhouse at 435-8221.
UMPI golf tournament.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Athletic Department is sponsoring a Golf Tournament to be held at the Presque Isle Country Club on Wednesday, June 13 at 9 a.m. The event is a 2-person scramble (men, women, or mixed teams allowed).
The cost of the tournament is $40 per person with the proceeds to benefit the University’s student athletes. Cash prizes will be given for first place gross and net winners with prizes given out to the second- and third-place teams. Prizes will also be given for closest to the pin and a grand prize for a hole in one on hole no. 8. Lunch will be provided.

Alpha One meeting correction
The Alpha One bowling group meeting will be held on Thursday, June 14, not Friday, June 8.
Hooked on Fishing field day
The sixth annual Hooked on Fishing Field Day will be taking place June 2 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mantle Lake Park. Prizes will be given to the young fisherman who catches the first trout, greatest total length of fish (up to five fish) and largest trout caught. Other prizes will be awarded throughout the day. There will be free food and drinks for all who attend.
