Presque Isle hosted its last track and field meet of the season on May 12. Both the boys and girls teams finished in second place overall, with scores of 80 and 122.5, respectively.
In the 4×800 meter relay for the girls, athletes Kailee Ireland, Jerica Fox, Julia Brown and Erin Thomas finished in second with a time of 11:38.8 minutes. The boys team, comprised of Nathan Ackerson, Brandon Hafford, Matthew Flora and Corey Park, finished in first, with a time of 9:31.1.
Elizan McLean finished in first place for the boys 110 meter hurdles, with a time of 17.2 seconds. Amber Griffin contributed to her team’s overall score by taking first place in the 100 meter dash; finishing with a time of 13.8.
PI had top five finishers in both the boys and girls 1,600 meter race walk. Arielle Googins and Hallie Bartlett finished in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 11:35.5 minutes and 11:54.8. Nathan Smith finished the race in 11:29.7.
The Wildcats also earned team points in the 3,200 meter run, with Kailee Ireland finishing in fifth in 14:15.5 minutes; and Brandon Hafford crossing the line in 11:18.9.
Krista Buck, Sarah Tompkins, Arielle Googins and Katrina Whittier finished in third for the 4×100 meter relay, with a time of 58.0 seconds. The boys’ team finished second in the event with a time of 49.6. The athletes running that event were Evan Richards, Dustin Graham, Parker Brown and Scott Wilson.
The Lady ‘Cats took the top two spots in the 400 meter dash, with Katrina Whittier finishing in 1:10.2 minutes and Krista Buck in 1:11.2. Elizan McLean also earned a point for his team by finishing fifth with a time for 58.5.
McLean also finished second in the boys 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 49.1 seconds. He was followed by Nathan Ackerson with a time of 49.5.
In the girls 200 meter dash, Amber Griffin crossed the line first with a time of 28.9 seconds, and Sarah Tompkins tied for fourth with a time of 30.2. Scott Wilson also finished in third for the boys race, with a time of 25.2.
The girls team dominated the 1,600 meter run, with four out of the top five spots claimed for the Wildcats. In first was Erin Thomas, finishing in 6:21.3 minutes; in third through fifth were Kailee Ireland, in 6:28.7, Jerica fox, in 6:44.9 and Jocelyn, in 6:48.9
Corey Park placed second in the boys 1,600 meter run, with a time of 4:58.6 minutes and Nathan Ackerson was fifth with a time of 5:20.96.
The girls 4×400 meter relay team, comprised of Sarah Tompkins, Kailee Ireland, Krista Buck and Katrina Whittier, finished in first place with a time of 4:41.7 minutes.
In the field events, Amber Griffin soared over the competition in the high jump, placing first by clearing 4-10. Nathan Ackerson and Jason Johnson came in third and fourth, respectively, for the boys by clearing 5-04 and 5-02. Gerard Desjardins came in third for the boys triple jump with a distance of 37-09.25.
Krista Buck placed third in the javelin throw with a distance of 87-08.5. Lucas Richards came in second in the javelin, with a distance of 133-04 and Gerard Desjardins was fourth with 124-01.
The Lady Wildcats took the first and second spots for the discus throw. Ashley Williamson nailed a 76-09 distance and Jocelyn Davis’ best was at 74-04. Hallie Bartlett came in fourth with a distance of 66-03. For the boys discuss event, Jason Johnson finished in fourth place with a distance of 166-00.5.
The shot put event had two PI first place finishers. Ryan Winslow threw 42-10.25 to win the boys event. For the girls, PI claimed the top four places, with Katrina Whittier throwing 28-08; Hallie Bartlett, at 27-02.5; Ashley Williamson, at 26-05; and Melissa Morrison, at 25-09.5.
Both Joey Johnson and Alicia Jones earned Presque Isle points by finishing fourth and third, respectively, in the pole vault competition. Johnson cleared 6-06 and Jones cleared 4-06.
