Sale designed for bargain hunters

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the city’s annual yard and garage sale, scheduled for, Saturday June 2.
“The start time for the event is set for 8 a.m. If it rains, we’ve set the rain date as June 9,” said Allen Deeves, executive director of the PIACC.
Deeves said it’s that time of year again to clean out those closets and tidy up the garage. The annual event is not just for homeowners. It’s designed for businesses to take part as well.
“Join your neighbors, friends and local businesses and get ready to sell your stuff,” said Deeves, noting that although the task doesn’t get any easier to clean the basement, attic, garage or other storage area, the sale gives people an opportunity to obtain a little cash for their unwanted treasures.
Those interested in being included on a city map indicating sale sites can do so by contacting the PIACC, whose office is located on the Houlton Road.  The number is 764-6561.
“We have a form they can complete indicating the location of their sale. The cost is $10 for residences and $25 for a business. Once registered, their location will be placed on the map which will then be distributed to area business and City Hall,” said Deeves.
Anyone interested in registering by mail can do so by sending their name, contact phone number, location of sale and the appropriate registration fee to: Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 672, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
The deadline to be included on the map is May 21.
Proceeds will be used to support the PIACC.
“This continues to be a popular event. It gives folks a chance to tidy up their homes and businesses, gives others a chance to find a bargain and serves as a fund-raiser for the Chamber. It should be a good time for all involved,” said Deeves.
