Brownies have Caribou roots

Oscar night partygoers may not know where Aroostook County is, but the brownies they enjoyed during the evening have a direct connection to the area – specifically Caribou.
“Longtime former Caribou resident and Simply Divine Brownies owner/founder Trina Beaulier, daughter of Dr. Mead Hayward, had brownies from her Brunswick-based business, Simply Divine Brownies, included in exclusive gift bags for attendees of the Children Uniting Nations (CUN) Oscar Viewing Dinner and After Party at The Music Box in Hollywood, Cali. on Feb. 25,” said Betsey Rogers, with the Simply Divine public relations office.
Beaulier, and daughter and company president, Meggan, have perfected the art of brownie making.
Beaulier got started in the brownie business after several road trips left her taste buds wanting, since most bakery varieties relied on bland mixes. That lead to the birth of Simply Divine Brownies, a gourmet brownie company offering more than 25 flavors and the nation’s first hand-cut, hand-decorated shaped brownies baked from scratch in Maine with “love, laughter and the finest confection,” according to Rogers.
Rogers said the eighth annual CUN Oscar Party is one of the top three most highly attended Academy Awards Oscar night events.
“It benefited the non-profit organization’s efforts to assist at risk children in the foster care system by providing quality mentoring relationships. This year’s honorees included actress Jane Seymour and L.A. Sheriff Lee Baca for their work with the organization,” said Rogers.
A portion of the nights proceeds were donated to CUN.
The event marked an anniversary of a remarkable year of Simply Divine Brownie achievements that began with the company being selected for gift bags for 2006 Academy Award nominees appearing on the “Extra” entertainment television show, said Rogers.
“Since then, the company has been featured on ‘The Rachael Ray Show,’ NBC’s ‘Today Show,’ has secured placement within celebrity gift bags for the 2006 Muhammed Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night and Indianapolis 500, and has created partnerships with L.L. Bean, Hancock Gourmet Lobster, Miles Kimball, Mackenzie Ltd., and the Home Shopping Network,” said Rogers.
Founded in 2004 by the mother-daughter team, Simply Divine Brownies is quickly becoming recognized for offering a quality product in a variety of flavors. SDB gives a portion of its proceeds to Volunteers of America – one of the largest providers of human services in the country in existence for 110 years.
