5th and 6th Grade Boys Basketball
The Celtics used stingy team defense to hold the Spurs scoreless in the third quarter on their way to the 21-18 win.  Josh Gordon led the Celtics with 9 points, including a basket with 4 seconds left to ice the game.  Khyver Lowe finished with 8 points and Drew Bates chipped in with 4 points.  Cody Lyford led a balanced Spurs attack with 8 points.  Jeremy Shaw contributed 4 points, and Bradley Shields, Jonathan Rochester, and Michael Guerrette each scored 2 points.

Brandon LeBlanc scored a game high 13 points to lead the Pistons to their first win of the season, a 29-22 decision over the Celtics.  Hale Cushman poured in 8 points and Karson Eaton chipped in with 4 points.  Carter LaPointe and Joel Tewksbury rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.  Josh Gordon paced the Celtics with 10 points.  Khyver Lowe finished with 8 points and Drew Barrett and Matthew Tilley each scored 2 points.
5th and 6th Grade Girls Basketball.
Hannah Guerrette poured in a season high 20 points to help power the Liberty past the Mercury.  Kaleigh Kinney also ended in double digits, finishing with 15 points.  Kelsey Burlock added 6 points for the Liberty.  Carly Bell and Lora Ireland each scored 6 points for the Mercury.
Amanda Charette made the game winning free throws in overtime to give the Mercury the 18-16 victory over the Stars.  Charette ended with 4 points, as did Lora Ireland.  Carly Bell led the Mercury with 8 points. Darcie Dow scored the other 2 Mercury points.  The Stars were led by Sara Gilson’s 8 points.  Kristina Lord chipped in with 4 points, and Emma Michelowski and Elena Ford each finished with 2 points.

Father/Daughter Dance
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department’s annual Father/Daughter Dance is scheduled for February 9 from 7-9 p.m. as the William V. Haskell Community Center.
The event is open to girls in grades K-6 and their fathers.
Advance tickets go on sale beginning today. The cost is $6 per couple.

Grades 1-2 Little Wildcat Basketball
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for the Little Wildcat basketball program for Presque Isle residents at the William V. Haskell Community Center.  Non-residents may register beginning February 1.
The program is offered to boys and girls in first and second grades and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays after school at the community center.
The registration fee is $15.  The program begins the week of February 26.

Big Rock ski passes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.  Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $14, or 22 percent off the regular price, while Adult lift tickets will be sold for $19, or 24 percent off the regular price.  Call 764-2545 with any questions.

Rally-O Training
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be offering a Rally-O dog training course.  The course will begin February 5th and run until March 5th every Monday, from 6:00-7:30 pm.

Youth Open Gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has started its open gym hours on Sundays and Saturdays throughout the winter from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Grades 1-5 are welcome from 1 to 3, and junior high and high school students are welcome from 3 to 5.  Available activities include gym games, board games, ping pong, foosball, and pool.  There is no cost.

Middle School Only Open Gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will offer a middle school only open gym time on Friday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  Students in grades 6-8 are invited to come and participate in open gym and other activities.  Possible group activities, such as tubing and bowling, may be scheduled for future dates.  This is open to MSAD 1 students only.
Adult Evening Activities
The current schedule is as follows:  Tuesday-Men’s Basketball, Wednesday-Dodgeball, Thursday-Men’s Basketball.  All programs run from 7-9 pm, and there is a $1 fee per activity per night.

Fort Rec KofC Free Throw contest
All Fort Fairfield boys and girls ages 10-14 (as of Jan. 1, 2007) are invited to participate in the local level of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Shooting contest Feb. 14 from 3-4 p.m. at the Fort Fairfield Community Center.
Awards will be presented to the first-place finishers in each of the age divisions (girls compete separately from boys). First-place finishers at the local competition in each age group will advance to the district level which will also be held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center. All district winners advance to the state competition to be held Saturday, March 10.

Hotshot basketball
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will be holding the local Hotshot Basketball Competition Feb. 12 from 4:30-6 p.m. and Feb. 13 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the community center.
The competition is for boys and girls ages 9-18 (age as of March 31, 2007.) Boys compete separately from girls and there are four different age groupings: 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, 13-15 years old and 16-18 years old.
Hotshot basketball is a skills competition that involves shooting from five hot spots marked on the basketball court. The competition tests speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability. All age group winners of the local competition advance to the northern regional competition to be held in Caribou Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. Regional winners advance to the state competition (date and location to be announced.)
The Fort Fairfield Recreation Department will hold two practice sessions for interested participants on Feb. 2 and 6 from 3-4 p.m. at the community center.
For the two days of competition, participants can choose one day to compete, or they may shoot on both days and take the best total score of the two.
